Ras Al Khaimah has approved three new private schools for the 2026-27 academic year as rising population numbers increase demand for education across the emirate.
The new schools will add around 3,000 student places. The expansion is expected to give families more choice while easing pressure on existing schools, where waiting lists are increasingly common.
Ras Al Khaimah population expected to exceed 650,000 by 2030
Ras Al Khaimah currently has a population of about 450,000. According to real estate consultancy Cavendish Maxwell, that figure could rise to more than 650,000 by the end of 2030.
The expected population growth is increasing demand for essential services, including education. As more people move to the emirate, schools are under greater pressure to provide additional places.
The three newly approved schools will help meet part of that demand.
Three new private schools to open in 2026-27
The new schools will offer different curricula to serve a wider range of families.
Al Ibdaa Private Academy in Dafan and Al Naser Private School Branch 2 in Al Dahan will follow the UAE Ministry of Education curriculum.
Meanwhile, Bloom American Private School in Sidrow will offer an American curriculum.
Together, the schools will create approximately 3,000 additional places for students across Ras Al Khaimah.
The expansion will also increase competition within the emirate’s private education sector. At the same time, it is expected to create more opportunities for qualified teachers and support staff.
New schools face licensing and staffing requirements
The Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge requires new private schools to meet several conditions before they can open.
These include requirements covering governance, curriculum approval, staff qualifications, financial sustainability, health and safety, and school facilities.
The authority is also preparing schools for the 2026-27 academic year by checking teacher qualifications.
In addition, it has conducted workshops aimed at improving compliance among new teachers and school leaders.
Education services are also becoming more digital. The department has been handling an increasing number of parent requests through the RAK Digital portal as more services move online.
Population growth reshapes Ras Al Khaimah’s education market
The expansion of private education comes as Ras Al Khaimah attracts more residents and investment.
Several major developments are planned across the emirate, with the Wynn Resorts project playing a key role in its wider real estate transformation.
As residential and economic activity expands, demand for schools is also expected to grow.
The latest approvals therefore point to a wider shift in Ras Al Khaimah’s education market, with private schools expanding to keep pace with population growth and changing demand from families.
