Dubai has launched the latest phase of its city-wide Digital Twin Platform, creating a continuously updated virtual replica of the emirate that integrates more than 195,000 buildings, 280,000 infrastructure assets and over 1,500 geospatial data layers into a single digital environment. The platform will support urban planning, infrastructure management, rainfall simulation and government decision-making while strengthening the digital foundation for Dubai’s smart city ambitions and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.
The launch marks the third phase of the initiative led by Dubai Municipality. Officials unveiled the platform during an event attended by Dubai Crown Prince Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Maktoum and UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence Omar Sultan Al Olama.
Dubai Digital Twin Platform expands city’s digital infrastructure
The platform functions as a live digital replica of Dubai by combining data on buildings, infrastructure, residential communities, landmarks and master plans into one integrated environment. It currently includes more than 100 two-dimensional and three-dimensional applications covering urban development, public infrastructure and municipal services.
Unlike traditional mapping systems, the platform allows authorities to simulate different scenarios before implementing projects. These capabilities support infrastructure planning, asset management, rainfall modelling and broader urban resilience planning.
Moreover, Dubai Municipality said the platform will continue evolving as new datasets and technologies are integrated across government entities and strategic partners.
Partnerships with Huawei and Al-Futtaim broaden ecosystem
Dubai Municipality also announced new partnership agreements with Huawei and Al-Futtaim Group to expand the Digital Twin ecosystem.
The collaborations aim to accelerate research, strengthen future planning capabilities and encourage wider adoption of digital twin technologies across public and private sector projects. As a result, the next phase will focus on integrating additional industries and expanding practical applications.
Platform supports Dubai Economic Agenda D33
The Digital Twin Platform forms part of Dubai’s broader digital transformation strategy and aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which seeks to double the emirate’s economy over the next decade.
Dubai Municipality said the project combines artificial intelligence, geospatial intelligence, IoT connectivity and advanced analytics to create a unified digital environment for city management. Furthermore, the platform is expected to strengthen collaboration between government agencies while improving long-term infrastructure planning.
The latest rollout builds on previous smart city initiatives, including Dubai Live, a real-time city operations platform, and Dubai Here, a digital mapping application that provides professionals with access to detailed two-dimensional and three-dimensional city data.
Why it matters for businesses
The expansion of Dubai’s Digital Twin Platform creates practical opportunities across several industries.
- Construction and engineering firms can improve project planning through advanced digital simulations.
- Infrastructure operators gain access to richer spatial data that supports asset management and maintenance.
- Real estate developers and urban planners can use a unified digital model to evaluate future developments more efficiently.
- Technology companies specialising in AI, IoT, geospatial analytics and digital infrastructure may find new collaboration opportunities as Dubai expands the platform’s ecosystem.
