Schools across the UAE are preparing to restart outdoor activities after weeks of disruption caused by regional tensions linked to the Iran–Israel–US conflict.

Although institutions reopened for in-person learning on April 20, they had kept playgrounds and sports facilities closed as a precaution. Now, authorities are taking the next step toward restoring normal school routines.

KHDA Signals Resumption of Outdoor Engagement

A fresh directive from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has confirmed that schools can resume outdoor activities.

As a result, institutions are updating schedules to reintroduce physical education classes, assemblies, and other outdoor programs. This move marks a significant shift toward full on-campus engagement.

Moreover, school administrators have begun preparations to ensure a smooth and safe transition for students.

Schools and Operators Begin Immediate Implementation

School leaders have acknowledged receiving the KHDA communication and have already initiated planning.

Dr. Ghadeer Abu-Shamat, Principal of Al Khaleej International School, confirmed the update and noted that teams are preparing students for outdoor participation.

In addition, a representative from GEMS Education stated that revised schedules are being implemented immediately in line with the announcement.

From Distance Learning to Full Campus Experience

The resumption follows more than 40 days of distance learning adopted during heightened regional tensions. Schools had suspended all outdoor and physical activities during this period to prioritise student safety.

However, with classrooms now fully operational, authorities are steadily reintroducing key aspects of school life. Consequently, students will soon regain access to sports, recreation, and outdoor interaction.

Cautious Yet Steady Transition Continues

Officials emphasise that the reopening of outdoor spaces will follow a phased and carefully monitored approach.

Furthermore, this transition reflects a broader strategy to balance safety with student well-being. As schools move forward, outdoor engagement will play a crucial role in restoring a holistic learning environment.
