Employees in the United Arab Emirates continue to value physical workplaces, even as hybrid work models evolve, according to the latest Global Workplace Survey 2026 by Gensler. The findings highlight a growing preference for offices that combine collaboration, productivity, and access to advanced technology.

Office Remains Central to Work in UAE

The survey shows that UAE employees spend around 53% of their workweek in the office. The rest of their time is divided between home, client sites, and other locations.

However, employees say they would prefer to spend even more time at the workplace. On average, respondents indicated an ideal split of 65% office-based work. This reflects the continued importance of physical offices in driving performance.

Technology and Focus Drive Office Attendance

The report identifies key reasons why employees choose to work from the office. Access to technology remains the top factor.

In addition, employees value the ability to focus better in office environments. Opportunities for professional development and leadership visibility also play a major role. Furthermore, social interaction with colleagues continues to be an important motivator.

Workplace Design and Amenities Matter

Employees are placing greater emphasis on workplace design and amenities. Within offices, spaces such as work cafés, team rooms, lounges, and wellness facilities are seen as highly valuable.

Moreover, nearby amenities also influence workplace experience. These include healthcare facilities, grocery stores, cafés, restaurants, and pharmacies. As a result, companies are rethinking office locations and infrastructure.

Shift Towards Integrated Work Ecosystems

According to Gensler, workplaces are no longer just about desks and meeting rooms. Instead, they are becoming integrated ecosystems that support both professional and personal needs.

Therefore, organizations are focusing on creating environments that combine flexibility, technology, and wellbeing. This shift is helping improve employee engagement and productivity.

Outlook: Rethinking the Future Workplace

The findings highlight a clear opportunity for businesses in the UAE. Companies can redesign workplaces to better support collaboration, learning, and innovation.

At the same time, the office remains a key space for connection and skill development. As digital transformation continues, organizations will need to balance technology with physical work environments. Overall, the report reinforces that the future of work in the UAE will be hybrid—but firmly anchored in the office.
