The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi released its Alumni Impact Report 2026 on January 28 in New Delhi as the institute completed 65 years, detailing how its graduates influence governance, academia, industry, and employment across India and global markets.
The report records that IIT Delhi alumni today span public institutions, research universities, corporate leadership, and startup ecosystems. The alumni base has expanded from about 150 graduates in 1966 to more than 65,000 worldwide, reflecting the institute’s growing footprint across sectors.
IIT Delhi alumni across public institutions
According to the report, more than 650 IIT Delhi alumni currently serve in public institutions. This includes over 270 officers in the Indian Administrative Service and more than 100 officers across the IPS, IRS, and IFS. Around 250 alumni hold leadership roles in public sector undertakings, regulatory bodies, and national scientific missions.
The institute’s Naval Construction Wing has also trained over 700 officers for the Indian Navy. These roles place graduates directly within India’s administrative, regulatory, and defence systems, linking technical education with public service delivery.
Beyond governance, IIT Delhi alumni maintain a visible presence in academia. Over 50 alumni teach at QS Top 100 universities globally, while more than 300 serve as faculty members across IITs in India. This academic network contributes to research output, curriculum development, and international collaboration.
Startups, jobs, and industry leadership
Entrepreneurship remains a central outcome highlighted in the report. More than 2,500 founders and co-founders from IIT Delhi have built companies that together have created about 4.8 lakh direct jobs. Alumni-founded firms include unicorns and global technology companies operating across consumer internet, fintech, enterprise software, and logistics.
Around 10,000 IIT Delhi alumni currently occupy leadership positions across banking, finance, manufacturing, and engineering. Nearly 70 percent of these leaders are based in India, while over 1,000 serve on corporate boards.
The report also details the IIT Delhi Endowment Fund, built entirely through alumni contributions. The fund has secured Rs 477 crore in pledges, with Rs 338 crore already realised. During a December 2025 reunion, the Class of 2000 pledged more than Rs 70 crore.
The Alumni Impact Report was released during the institute’s foundation day event in the presence of alumni and faculty leadership, outlining how graduate contributions continue to intersect with India’s administrative capacity, innovation systems, and employment landscape.
