The Ministry of Finance of the United Arab Emirates has announced the appointment of Obaid Alghfeli as Head of Tax Policies and Legislations. The appointment comes as the UAE continues to refine its fiscal architecture and strengthen its legislative framework in line with global best practices.
In his new role, Alghfeli will lead the development and oversight of tax policy formulation, legislative design, and regulatory alignment, supporting the country’s long-term economic sustainability and competitiveness.
Extensive experience across public sector and strategic planning roles
Alghfeli brings more than a decade of experience across government and strategic functions to the role. Prior to joining the Ministry of Finance, he held senior leadership positions at the Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority, where he served as Team Leader for Strategic Planning and Projects.
Earlier in his career, he spent over 12 years at ADNOC Group, contributing across multiple technical and analytical roles, including business planning, project engineering, and operational analysis. His background combines policy-oriented thinking with hands-on experience in large, complex organisations.
UAE tax policy appointment strengthens federal tax governance
As Head of Tax Policies and Legislations, Alghfeli is expected to play a key role in enhancing policy coherence, ensuring legislative clarity, and supporting the UAE’s evolving tax ecosystem. The role also involves close coordination with federal entities and international stakeholders to maintain alignment with global tax standards.
The appointment reflects the Ministry of Finance’s emphasis on institutional leadership, strategic depth, and long-term policy resilience.
